The Space Whale Orchestra is an improvisational chamber music ensemble / group of weirdos that came together while attending Drexel University.

Inspired by an improvisation workshop with composer / improviser / badass violinist, Daniel Bernard Romain (DBR), tenor saxophonist Steve Davit founded the group in 2008 with the aid of late / great mentor / teacher Dr. Myron Moss.

Having changed their name from
Drexel Improv Ensemble (DIE) to the Space Whale Orchestra (SWO), the group’s music is an ever evolving tapestry of harmony and chaos. Employing everything from pre-meditated structures to extra-musical materials to just plain goin’ for it, Space Whale embraces the entirety of the tonal / atonal spectrum.
